Fight, Flight, or Freeze

We all respond to stress in our own way — that's the Fight, Flight, or Freeze response. What may trigger these reactions in us? What if we could stay in the moment and find a more constructive way out?
FightWhen you notice yourself going into fight mode
Take a deep breath and step back for a moment.
- If you would look at the topic with curiosity, what do you think may be expected from you?
- Try to put yourself in the other person's shoes. What may be the 2% truth in what they're saying?
- What pain point or insecurity might they have touched?
- What are the positive points you are bringing into that situation?
Flight
If your first reaction is to run or escape
Take a deep breath and step back for a moment.
- What makes the situation uncomfortable?
- What's the best possible outcome if you stay and face the situation?
- What's the worst-case scenario you imagine?
- What actions could support the best outcome?
- Try exploring gentler ways to stay with the discomfort while staying grounded.
Freeze
When you find yourself stuck or unable to act
Take a deep breath and step back for a moment.
- What scared you?
- What might happen if you move with just one small step?
- What would motivate you to move?
- What's the outcome you truly want?
- How do you want to feel when this situation passes?
- What actions may make that feeling become reality?
- What's the first step, big or small, that could bring you closer to it?
Reflection
How do you dream of yourself reacting to stressful situations? How do you dream of yourself reacting when unexpected things happen?
